The Joy Group of Pleasant Valley Baptist Church enjoyed this Christmas season and the celebration of Christ’s birth with their annual holiday meeting on Thursday, November 30, with 63 in attendance.

Many comments were made about the beautiful job Karen Strickland did in decorating the social hall with traditional Christmas décor.  Much enjoyment also came from the traditional holiday meal catered by Cindy Altman, owner and operator of Honey Buns Restaurant.

The business meeting included recognition of birthdays and anniversaries celebrated during the months of October, November, and December.  After the meal everyone was presented gifts of Christmas boxed candy while singing favorite old-time Christmas carols.  It was decided by unanimous vote to increase their annual donation to the Lottie Moon Christmas offering.

The group was especially excited to have their pastor, Rev. David Marshall, as the guest speaker.  It was particularly meaningful to have him share with the group as this was his first time meeting with them.  Using Leviticus 19:32 as his text, he shared the biblical examples of Abraham and Sarah as well as Moses and Aaron to illustrate that God uses senior adults to accomplish his purposes.  He noted that spiritually mature senior adults provide great wisdom and guidance to others.  Encouragement was given to remember to invest your life in eternal things and continue to trust God as you age gracefully.

The meeting ended with Joy Group Leader, Bill Lambert, expressing appreciation to Pastor David and presenting him with a special gift.  The next meeting will be held on Thursday, January 18.
