Pleasant Valley Baptist Church

Hot and steamy would be the proper adjectives to describe the south Georgia summer this year.  But, the Pleasant Valley Baptist Joy Group would be quick to add “fun-filled” as the adjective describing their summer activities.

The summer was kicked off with the June 15 meeting held at the church with 26 in attendance.  Transitional Pastor Ed Hurst was asked to be the guest speaker for the meeting.  Having Bro. Ed speak to the group was particularly meaningful as he was in his last few weeks as transitional pastor at Pleasant Valley.  Bro. Ed had served as transitional pastor at Pleasant Valley since March, 2015, and the church would soon be welcoming Rev. David Marshall to serve as full-time pastor at the church.  In appreciation to Bro. Ed for his outstanding and God-led service to the church, the Joy Group designated the offering collected that day to be given to him and his lovely wife, Juanita.  In speaking to the group that day, Bro. Ed reflected back to when he was saved as a teenager at a revival being held at Pleasant Valley and then at age 16 surrendering to the call of the ministry.   He was ordained at Pleasant Valley, along with Rev. J.D. Bowen, and the late Rev. Marvin Guy.  Since that time, Bro. Ed has faithfully served in the ministry for 64 years.  Pleasant Valley has been truly blessed to have him as transitional pastor.

For the July meeting, 34 members of the Joy Group traveled over to the Country Cabin Restaurant in Pearson, GA for a delicious meal.  Members enjoyed driving through the countryside and visiting with each other around a wonderful lakeside setting.

With summer winding down the group met August 17 for their final summer meeting with 44 in attendance.  Members celebrating summertime birthdays and anniversaries were recognized and presented candy.  A devotion from Matthew 7:7-ll on how God Answers Prayer was given by Joy Group Leader, Sandra Lambert.  Wesley Crews gave a testimony on how God had answered a particular prayer for him.  The group then enjoyed several games of Bingo with game winners receiving gift card prizes from Chick-fil-A and Hwy. 55 Burgers, Shakes, and Fries.

The group now looks forward to its fall activities which include the annual fish fry to be held on September 21 and a trip in October to Cumberland Island.
