Pleasant Valley Baptist Church

Pleasant Valley Baptist Joy Group met on Thursday, March 15, 2018, with 61 attending.  Bill Lambert, Joy Group Leader, led the group in recognizing members celebrating March birthdays and anniversaries.   Members present enjoyed a delicious lunch featuring southern fried and baked chicken with an array of delicious side dishes and desserts.

Guest speakers for the meeting were Hoboken Baptist Pastor, the Rev. Ben Glosson and his lovely wife, Vian.  Pleasant Valley folks were excited to have Bro. Ben back to speak to them.    It was especially meaningful that Bro. Ben used the bible that had been presented to him from Pleasant Valley when he served as interim pastor at the church in 1962 while still a teenager.  In past years, he has led revivals at Pleasant Valley and also preached the keynote sermon when the PVBC sanctuary was dedicated in 1994.  Bro. Ben used Ecclesiastes 9:10 as his text which tells us that whatever we are called to do for the Lord, we need to do now.  He shared about the mission trips he and Vian have been doing since 1987 to Reynosa, Mexico.  Since this ministry began, seven churches have been planted in the city and many have been led to the Lord.  Vian shared about the stocking ministry provided for the children in the city which include toys, personal hygiene products, and gospel tracts for the boys and girls.  For the past few years the Pleasant Valley Sewing Sisters has supported this ministry.  Marilyn Thornhill, coordinator of this group, stated that in 2017, the group made and donated 700 stockings and 350 “diddy” bags filled with salvation dolls and other items for the Glosson’s mission trip.  A slide presentation was shown illustrating the stocking ministry to children and the trash dump squatter ministry.  Throughout the year, clothes, shoes, and medical supplies are sent to the area.  Bro. Ben stated that the most requested items were a bible and soap and washcloth.

At the conclusion of the meeting, PVBC Pastor David Marshall presented the Glosson’s with a gift certificate of appreciation from the Joy Group.   The group also donated the offering collected at the meeting toward their mission trip expenses. The Joy Group is now looking forward to their spring activities which include a picnic at Laura Walker State Park on Thursday, April 19, the Myrtle Beach Jubilee Conference April 30-May2, Senior Citizen Sunday on May 6, and the Associational Gathering at Second Baptist on Monday, May 7.
